Carving pumpkins is a fun way to get creative and spend time with (grand)children whilst creating seasonal decoration for home and/or garden. Carving a pumpkin can be done very easily, though more advanced designs and carving methods can make it a bit more difficult. Here are a few tips for creating the perfect pumpkin:
- Choose your pumpkin, wisely
Make sure you know how much work and time you want to spent on carving the pumpkin. The bigger the pumpkin, the more work. Besides that, you can of course also decide on different shapes of pumpkins. Again, if you would like it to be a project to keep your busy for a while, an odd size will probably be your best bet. If you don’t have much time though, go for an easy shape!
- Make use of a template for the right design.
There are many websites dedicated to pumpkin templates as well as that you could create your very own template. Secure it to your pumpkin and simply trace the image by creating holes along the lines.
- Shave some parts of the pumpkin instead of just cutting all the way through.
This will result in a more dynamic design and creates depth!
- Use autumn leaves and acorns to bring the pumpkin to life.
Create hair with the leaves that fell out of the tree in your garden and acorns to create a nose. Create a pumpkin that stands out!
- Let it shine!
Christmas lights are perfect to further decorate your pumpkin. You can even decide to use multicoloured and/or flashing Christmas lights.
